28 September 2016— The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the Philippine Ladies Circle - Abu Dhabi, held a forum on Cerebral Palsy awareness at the Embassy function hall on September 23.
In his welcome remarks, Philippine Ambassador Constancio R. Vingno Jr. said, “We have been enjoined by the Department of Foreign Affairs to observe the 13th Cerebral Palsy Awareness and Protection week with the theme “Kung sa Cerebral Palsy ay may Kaalaman, Maganda ang Kinabukasan”.
“The observance is a good opportunity to help us understand people who have Cerebral Palsy,” said Ambassador Vingno.
Ms. Kismette Jasmin Cepe-Riguerra, Special Education classroom teacher at the Future Centre for Special Needs in Abu Dhabi, conducted a lecture entitled “Understanding Learners with Cerebral Palsy”.
“Teacher Kismette”, as she is fondly called by her students, talked about the origin, types, causes, and different cases of cerebral palsy. She outlined signs of cerebral palsy in infants as well as the treatment goals. Embassy personnel participated in activities facilitated by Teacher Kismette during the lecture, followed by an open forum. END
