30 August 2016 – Four Filipinas based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are among this year’s recipients of the 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World Awards during the 13th Filipina Leadership Global Summit at Shangri-la’s Mactan Resort and Spa, Cebu on August 23. The said award is given by the Global Filipino Women’s Network (FWN), a US-based non-government organization.

Rachel Salinel Los Banos, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the Filipino Excellence in the Middle East (FEME) and Senior Correspondent at The Filipino Channel ABS-CBN Middle East and TAG 91.1 FM Radio of Arabian Radio Network (ARN) in Dubai, received the award under the ‘Behind the Scenes Leaders’ category. The award is given in recognition to the Filipino women who have gone beyond the call of duty to advocate for those who need a voice, and who have supported the organization which she represents.

Karen Remo, Managing Director and Co-Founder of New Perspective Media in Dubai and Editor-in-Chief of The Filipino Times, received the award under the ‘Founders and Pioneers’ category, which honors Filipino women in their capacities as chief executive, president, executive director or founder of a company, community organization, non-profit, or business venture that they helped start, build or significantly grow.

Abu Dhabi-based Irene Corpuz, Head of Planning and IT Security Section at the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, Western Region Municipality, and Dubai-based Arlene Abe Pulido, the Learning and Development Manager at Al Tamimi & Company Advocates and Legal Consultants received the award under the ‘Builders’ category. The said category honors Filipino women who have demonstrated exceptional business impact in a large workplace environment, who have shown high potential and skill with measurable results at a government agency, nonprofit or organization in the public and private sectors; and who have displayed profound passion for their individual causes.

This year’s list also included Vice President Leni Robredo who received the award under the ‘Nicole’ category, which honors Filipino women whose words, action, and activism inspire others “to act and revolutionize society’s way of understanding traditional beliefs and customs thus leaving behind a Filipino global imprint.”

“I, and the rest of the Filipino community in the UAE, are extremely proud to have in our midst these inspiring Filipinas who have broken glass ceilings in their respective fields,” said Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Constancio R. Vingno, Jr.
